Position: PROGRAM OFFICER
The Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) is the professional association
for lawyers In Mainland
Tanzania with prime objective of promoting the rule of law by representing its members' interests and by advising the government and the general public on matters pertaining to the law, human rights and access to justice. In its efforts to improve its Secretariat team, TLS intends to fill the following posts:-
Overview: Reporting to the CEO, the position' supports TLS to strengthen and enhance competence and professionalism through provision of excellent continuing professional development, ethical practice and effective and timely communication with members, stakeholders and the public on legal information/developments. The Member Services Officer will be required to demonstrate significant self-initiative and innovation while understanding the strategic priorities 0.1TLS. The Position will head the Member Services Programme.
Competencies:
• High level of understanding of the legal profession in Tanzania and functions of the Law Society
• Demonstrate ability to work in a membership organization
• Customer service skills and the ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships with members and external stakeholders
• Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate to multi-tier levels internally and externally;
• Strong planning and problem solving skills
• Experience of managing information to contribute/ achieve organizational objectives; and
• Present a professional image to the employees, members and the general public.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for oversight in review and development CLE regulations, policies, procedures and implementation of the TLS CLE programme
• Responsible for the oversight of the Ethics and Compliance Programme; e;
• Ensures that TLS builds a close working relationship with the Advocates Committee; e;
• Develop programme.to guard against unqualified legal practice; and d
• Responsible for the development of the TLS (professional indemnity for Advocates) Regulations.
• Oversee the Programmes work on Advocates remuneration and Legal costs management
• Responsible for developing and managing TLS member services projects including Young lawyers mentorship programmes, Junior lawyers professional development programmes, TLS Law firm Forum, and Women Lawyers
• Initiate and develop programmes to assist lawyers setting up law practice for the first timee
• Ensure the Deceased Advocates Trust Fund (DATF) evolves with the growth of the fund and welfare needs of the settlors and advise the Trustees, TLS management and Governing Council accordingly and that the approved benefits are administered timely and effectively.
• Develop strong institutional and individual lawyers linkage with the East African Law, Society (EALS), SADCLA,
• Commonwealth Bar Association, and the International Bar Association (IBA) and ensure that the benefits and opportunities of the Associations are clearly communicated to TLS members.
• Continually develop and implement innovative proposals to enhance membership benefits.
• Facilitate TLS Collaboration with the Judiciary.
• Ensure that there is timely and effective communication between TLS and its members and other stakeholders and use communication to build member engagement with the Secretariat, Committees and the Council;
• Maintaining electronic membership information database and oversees tasks regarding members' database and. ensuring that records and information on the centralized web based members' database for the public is accurate and up-to-date; and nd
• Coordinate the Annual Wakili Excellence Awards.s.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor Degree in Law;
• Admission to the Bar is a must;
• A member of Tanganyika Law Society in good standing;
• Three years’ work experience with at least one year in mid-level management position will be an added advantage;
